Back Slapping Time? Methinks not

At the last School Board meeting I attended, it seem that the overriding 'back slap' was on how well some of the scores went.  I think some explanations are in order here, given this from the Concord Monitor (address the schools that are now in the status of "In Need Of Improvement"):

Four local districts - Gilford, Kearsarge Regional, Newfound Area and Winnisquam Regional - landed on the list for the first time. All of those districts missed the bar in reading for the second year in a row, while Winnisquam and Gilford also fell short of the state standard in math for the second year in a row.

For all of the "academese" thrown around, and what could be described as "we're looking into this, we're looking into that...", it is the results that count (which is one reason why, it seems, these standardized tests are so hated by teachers).  Period.  And for those that wish to complain otherwise?

Well, in the VERY words of Joe Wernig:

Well put, Joe!

Gilford School Board meeting - 4/4/2011 - Chair Kurt Webber: Presentation

In defense of the School Board's rejection of the Town Vote telling the School Board to follow the 1998 plan, Chair Kurt Webber presented the following:

The Q & A that followed is here (note the love from Joe Wernig):

which was on the budget process.  Frankly, it was factually correct.  Frankly, I think he tried to portray the process this year a bit more "collegial" than what it actually was:

And the resulting Q & A afterwards:
