Gilford School Board meeting - 3/21/11
Well, most of the folks that assembled for the meeting were there because of the supposed change in the meeting agenda from just a discussion of the NECAP scores for the District to that of "the vote". And the "public" was more of a "the Board will listen to you all talk amongst yourselves, because we aren't answering any questions at all".
Imperious, as in "we deign not to converse"? Perhaps the BudComm should adopt this practice - it works SO well for enabling taxpayers to query those they have elected! Accountability? I guess we are supposed to search for crumbs...or only have the ability to hold them to account with our votes...
Yeah, such a deal! With all that said, the Agenda was changed to talk about the vote. Oh wait, it was simply to say that it was merely his intention (Kurt Webber) to have a press release ready for distribution by Friday.
Whitewash or rug sweeping?
Then it was on to the NECAPS, which in my opinion, it boiled down to:
we're working hard, working hard to analyze, working hard to restructure, it's the kids fault, it is the socioconomic lower class fault, it is the IEP kids fault....and the test is REALLY REALLY hard.
Anyways, enough of "my" filter: here's the complete recording.

BTW, you can see that Dale Dormody and Kevin Roy have all the reports and data (and kudos to them for having put in the time for getting and reading it all).
However, it seems that on-going meme is going to be "ignore those that were ACTUALLY THERE and, heavens!, those that were actually part of the process - like Karen Thurston (who was actually on the Committee that did the work).
It was clear from Monday night, and in his Letter in the paper today, that Karen's recollections are to be dismissed out of hand.I urge the School Board (and its allies) to continue on this path - they are leading themselves to SUCH a PR disaster. It will make it that much easier in "If the Board will not change it's mind, we will change the Board".
The actions of a single person often make a difference - but for the actions of that person, history could been much different. I've watched elections decided by a single vote, I've seen what a single, fired up person can accomplish when they see that their foundational principles are being violated - and refuse to sit still.
