The apology was given...to whom?
From the Meredith News (subscription required) of August 16:
Laliberte steps into bigger shoes at M'boro Central School
[snip]
Laliberte has already learned the hard way that the spotlight shines a little brighter on the captain's chair. In a recent interview on the budget process in Gilford, Laliberte erred on several factual points regarding the committee's origin. The meeting was video taped and found its way to the Internet via GilfordGrok, an activist Web site in his hometown.
Laliberte stands by the opinions of the process he had expressed in the meeting, the true focus of the discussion. However, he freely acknowledges that his facts were not straight on the history of the committee or its origins. Upon learning of the errors, Laliberte contacted Superintendent Michael Lancor to acknowledge the mistake and apologize.[snip]
So when does he apologize to Dick Hickok, Chair of the Gilford Budget Committee, for getting it so wrong so badly?

Comments
Mr. Laliberte acknowledged his mistakes when speaking about the history of the budget committee. His statement to the effect that the opinion in Gilford of the current budget committee is "mixed"...well...if you don't agree with that statement you don't live on this planet. Anyways, it's not like he tried to offer false election results as "empirical evidence" of the will of the entire town of Gilford, or something like that. That would just be crazy!

But only to his boss (according to the paper) - not to the BudComm. Agreed - people do have mixed emotions.
"False election" - this is a ridiculous strawman argument that has nothing to do with what Mr. Laliberte falsely said.

I think it illustrates two points quite well 1. We all make mistakes and 2. Noone likes to be bludgeoned with them. You certainly support the second with your spirited response. Mr. Laliberte is a good man who has done much for this community. Stop piling on. He made some mistakes about the history of the committee, but never insulted anyone on it. He acknowledged his mistakes, just as you did yours. Please let it go.

Hold on a second... Someone needs to review Mr. Laleberte's statements. His historical oversight to Gilford's Budget Committee is only one of several mis-truths (I don't want to call him a lier, that wouldn't be nice). He claimed that a single BudCom member could cut budgets. He also claimed that ongoing maintenance was not being done because the budget was cut. He claimed that both the Municipal and School budget was cut. He claimed badly needed programs were indescriminantly cut. When in fact NO PROGRAMS were cut. Not to mention that the budcom can't cut programs. He also makes reference to lab sinks in desperate need of repair. Anyone bothering to check the minutes of the Budcom meetings will find that the budget for replacing those sinks was aproved. If those sinks didn't get fixed you'll have to check and see which teacher's stipend was paid with the money. Would someone please tell me of a single existing program that has been cut by the BudCom?
