Let loose the union cry: "Less work, more pay!"
.
Sources inform GilfordGrok that members of the Gilford police department are planning to unionize. I view this as not necessarily a bad thing-- after all, the taxpayers will get to say "yes" or "no" to any contract in the privacy of the voting booth. I'll bet voters will not be receptive to any contract that continues to provide 100% health care benefits AND big raises, and anything else that they manage to stick in there. If I were a Gilford cop, I think I'd look at the possibilities of what could happen, and probably conclude that the present system is pretty good-- the Selectmen are usually rather generous and tend to take for the needs of the town's employees over those of the taxpayers.
.
Presently, salaries and benefits are buried and scattered throughout the entire budget--just imagine all those little clauses and bennies published as one single piece for all to see before voting day...
